The Wright State women's tennis team split a pair of matches in the opening day of the Horizon League Championships in Indianapolis, Saturday, defeating Cleveland State 4-3 in the opening round before falling 4-0 to UIC in the semifinals.

The fifth-seeded Raiders went the distance against the fourth-seed Vikings in the opening round, with WSU winning four of the six singles matches to claim the victory. Winning in singles play was Audra Beckett (2nd), Laura Culbertson (3rd), Christa Ames (4th) and Karina Presti (5th).

Top-seeded UIC, however, swept Wright State in the semifinals by taking the doubles point and three singles matches, all in straight sets.

Wright State now takes on Youngstown State in the third-place match Sunday morning at 9:00.
