The Wright State offense was held in check most of the day as the Raiders dropped a pair of games to Miami at the WSU Softball Field Tuesday afternoon, the RedHawks taking game one 4-2 and the nightcap 7-0.
Miami tallied an unearned run in the second to open the scoring in the opener, but WSU answered with a run of its own in its half of the inning as Jamie Perkins walked, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a Jacqueline Macy bunt, and scored on a two-out single up the middle off the bat of Michelle Logan.
The RedHawks, though, broke the deadlock on a Sarah Billstrom solo home run to center in the fourth and added two more on a Christine Bills hit through the right side in the fifth.
Wright State closed the margin to 4-2 in the sixth as Kristen Farley led off with a double and came around to score on groundouts by Perkins and Allison Cox, but could get no closer.
The Raiders had a golden opportunity to take their first lead of the day in the second inning of game two as they loaded the bases with no outs on a Perkins double, a Cox single and a Macy walk. Shalise Lugo, however, kept WSU off the scoreboard with back-to-back strikeouts and a line out to center.
Miami followed by scoring three in the third, including a two-run double from Leslie Macedo, and gradually extended the lead by scoring single runs in each of the final four frames.
Wright State, now 16-21 on the season, faces another Mid-American Conference foe on Thursday as the Raiders travel to Muncie for a 2:00 doubleheader against the Ball State Cardinals.
