INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Wright State women’s soccer team was honored by the Horizon League on Friday afternoon, with head coach Pat Ferguson and four student-athletes earning postseason honors from the league coaches. Ferguson was named Co-Coach of the Year, while three players earned First Team All-League honors, one was placed on the Second Team All-League squad and a pair of WSU players earned All-Newcomer Team accolades.

Ferguson was selected as the Horizon League’s Co-Coach of the Year by the nine coaches that vote for the postseason awards. The fifth-year head coach becomes the second winner of the award, joining Scott Rogers (1999) as the only two women’s soccer coaches from WSU to earn coach of the year honors. Ferguson has won ten games during each of his five seasons on campus and owns a 57-29-11 mark during his WSU tenure. He has guided WSU to an 11-6-2 overall mark, while helping the Green and Gold to a second place finish, their highest since 1999, and a 6-2-0 mark.

The First Team All-Horizon League squad featured three WSU players – tying for the most in the league with Milwaukee – and was headlined by junior goalkeeper Meghan Hackerson. Hackerson joined teammates Bekah Bonny and Jen Agueci on the First Team, marking only the second time that WSU has had three players honored with First Team honors.

Hackerson has been a stalwart in goal for the Green and Gold this season, owning a 0.70 goals against average for the season. The Ames, Iowa native allowed only three goals in Horizon League play – good for a 0.38 GAA – and never allowed more than one goal versus a league foe. She leads the league in goals against average (0.70), save percentage (.857) and is tied the lead with eight shutouts. She needs one more shutout to tie the WSU single season mark with nine, while she can break the career mark with one more blanking in 2009.

Bonny is selected to the First Team after ranking among the league leaders in goals, match-winning goals and points. The three match-winning goals ranked second behind Sarah Hagen of Milwaukee and her seven goals were tied for third in the league. Agueci was a big part of the Raiders midfield as she tallied three goals and chipped in two assists, ranking third on the team with eight total points to earn First Team All-League accolades.

Trisha Stevens was the lone WSU player named to the All-Horizon League Second Team, after scoring one goal and adding two assists in 18 starts. The junior was a contributing factor to WSU’s league-leading 0.76 goals against average as a part of the defensive backline.

A pair of freshman were honored as All-Newcomer Team selections after having solid rookie campaigns for WSU. I’esha King and Lauren Patterson each contributed on the backline for WSU this season and each player recorded one assist during the season. This marks the 15th straight season that WSU has had an All-Newcomer selection, while placing multiple players on the squad 11 times.

The Raiders will head north to Milwaukee to compete for the Horizon League crown starting on Friday, November 5 versus the highest remaining seed of the opening round.
