DAYTON, Ohio – The Wright State women’s soccer program and head coach Pat Ferguson have announced their 19-game, 2009 schedule. The Raiders will play eight games at home, 11 true road games and end the season with the Horizon League Championship starting on November 1 at campus sites.

“As a program you are always looking to challenge your team with your non-conference schedule,” said head coach Pat Ferguson. “This season we will face a tough contingent of non-conference foes on the road and at home to prepare us for a daunting league schedule. I am always excited for the start of the season, but a schedule like this will really prepare our program for the late season stretch and competition in our league tournament.”

The Raiders will open the season with an exhibition match versus in-state foe Miami at Alumni Field on August 14, before playing their first two matches of the regular season on the road. WSU will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to take on Indiana (8/21) before heading to Akron to face the Zips on Sunday, August 23. A home match with Middle Tennessee State on August 28 will cap the opening month of the season and send Wright State into September.

The ninth month of the year will feature five home matches and four road tilts, including the opening match of the Horizon League season. The Raiders will open the month with a road game versus IPFW (9/4), followed by their Horizon League opener against Loyola on Sunday, September 6 at Alumni Field. After playing Toledo (9/10) and Dayton (9/13) on the road, WSU will open a four-match home stand before closing the month at Indiana State (9/30). The home stand will include games versus Western Michigan (9/18), Valparaiso (9/20), Gardner Webb (9/25) and Cleveland State (9/27).

October will start with two of three games at home for the Green and Gold, but close with four straight Horizon League road tilts. WSU will face Ohio Dominican on October 2 and Butler on October 11, with a trip to Longwood (Va.) (10/4) in between. The Raiders then face their toughest test of the year as a four-match, Horizon League road trip will conclude their regular season. The Raiders will face Green Bay (10/16) and Milwaukee (10/18) to start their trip and close out with games at Youngstown State (10/23) and at Detroit (10/25) to wrap up the 2009 regular season schedule.

The Horizon League tournament will open on November 1 at campus sites, before heading to the highest remaining seed from the 2009 regular season for the semifinals and championship match. The Raiders will look to continue their string of 10+ win seasons, which stands at four, as they have a solid balance of newcomers and veterans entering the 2009 slate.
