Kasmer, Persaud Net Goals, Hackerson Makes Seven Saves at Louisville

DAYTON, Ohio - The Wright State women's soccer team didn't win their opening match this spring, but have rebounded with a scoreless tie versus Ohio State and a 2-0 victory at Louisville. Amber Kasmer netted the opening tally and Brittany Persaud converted a penalty kick to give WSU the win at UL, while Hackerson has been solid in goal in all three contests.

The Green and Gold opened the spring slate with a 2-1 setback versus Central Michigan at the OSU Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 11. The Raiders scored their opening goal in the first half when Persaud bent in a corner kick to give WSU a 1-0 advantage. CMU would score twice in the second half and WSU couldn't convert on their chances in the final stanza in the loss.

Later that day, the Raiders tangled with the host Buckeyes and played to a scoreless draw after 90-minutes of play. Wright State held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots, while Meghan Hackerson made three saves in the contest to keep OSU off the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, April 14, Wright State traveled to Louisville and claimed a 2-0 victory against the Cardinals. After a scoreless first half, WSU's Kasmer broke away from the defense and scored her first tally of the spring and Persaud converted a Penalty Kick for the other goal. The PK was set up by a great pass from Kasmer to Jen Agueci who was open inside the penalty box. Agueci was brought down in the box and the referee awarded the penalty kick that Persaud connected on.

In the Louisville match, the Raiders took 12 shots and Hackerson made seven stops in net to collect the shutout. Louisville, who ended the 2008 season ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region, took 24 shots in the contest. Persaud was also credited with the assist on the opening goal of the match, giving her five points in three games this spring.

Wright State, now 1-1-1 this spring, will return to action this weekend at Miami (Ohio) for their lone match of the week. The Raiders and RedHawks will take to the pitch on Saturday, April 18 starting at 4:00.
