DAYTON, Ohio – The Wright State women’s basketball team claimed a 64-46 victory over Milwaukee at Sinclair Community College to sweep the season series with the Panthers for the first time since 1996. A 32-12 run over the final ten minutes proved the difference in the contest, with LaShawna Thomas scoring 20 points and all eight Raiders scoring in the victory.
The first half opened well for the Panthers as they took a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the contest. After a WSU timeout, the Raiders roared back with nine straight points to take their first lead of the games, 9-7, with 12:41 to play.
The game remained close to close out the first half, with the lead changing hands five times over the final 12 minutes. WSU took the final lead of the half on a Thomas three pointer to move ahead 20-18, before Kanisha Ward closed the half with a jumper to give WSU a 22-18 lead at the half.

The Green and Gold shot 52-percent in the first half, going ten-for-19, and assisted on seven of their field goals. The Raiders forced 14 turnovers and held Milwaukee to just 29-percent shooting during the first 20 minutes of play. Thomas scored eight points to lead all scorers, while seven different players scored for WSU.
Each team led during the first nine minutes of the first half, with neither team leading by more than two points, before UWM took a 34-32 lead with 10:47 remaining. That was the last lead of the game for the Panthers (9-12, 4-6 HL) and WSU pushing their lead to 13 points. Wright State’s 15-0 run lasted nearly four minutes and gave WSU control at 47-34.
The Green and Gold extended their lead twenty points at 60-40 when Molly Fox converted a layup at the 3:29. The Panthers outscored the Raiders to close out the game, but the spurt was only 6-4, to cap the scoring at 64-46.
Thomas scored twenty points in the contest, marking her eighth career game with 20+ points, and added four steals in the game. Fox chipped in 13 points and six rebounds, while Ward added nine points with seven assists. In the game, WSU shot 54-percent from the floor in the game and were 11-of-15 from the charity stripe.
The Panthers were limited to 32-percent shooting in the game and turned the ball over 25 times, but outrebounded WSU, 30-27. Lindsay Laur led Milwaukee with 14 points and Sami Tucker grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Wright State extended its winning streak to three games with the victory and swept the season series with Milwaukee for the first time since ‘96. WSU improves to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in Horizon League play and will now face #23 Green Bay on Saturday, February 6 starting at 6:00 at Sinclair Community College.
