Neuman Brothers Earn National Doubles Ranking From ITA

Junior Landon Neuman is One Part of the Nationally Ranked Doubles Team for Wright State

Junior Landon Neuman is One Part of the Nationally Ranked Doubles Team for Wright State

Jan. 11, 2010

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced recently that the Wright State men’s tennis doubles team of Evan Neuman and Landon Neuman have been ranked among the nation’s best. The Neuman brothers, of Lima, Ohio, are currently tied for 39th in the latest ITA rankings and were 3-0 as a doubles pair during the fall season.

Although it is early in the season and we have a lot of tennis ahead of us, there is no denying the hard work and determination from Landon and Evan as a doubles team,” said head coach Sean McCaffrey. “As is the coaching staff we expect continued growth from the Neuman brothers, as well as the rest of our team in 2010.  I believe that we have the strength and ability to compete amongst the nation’s best and that our roster can compete for the Horizon League crown this season.”

Landon, a three-year letterwinner for the Raiders, won 16 total matches last season for the Green and Gold. He posted a 9-13 mark in singles competition and was 7-12 in doubles during the 2008-09 campaign. The older brother, Landon has won five singles matches and six doubles matches this season, entering the spring season with five wins in his last seven singles competitions.

Evan, the younger brother, is a rookie on the 2009-10 squad and owns a singles record of 5-2, that consisted of a four match winning streak. In doubles, the younger Neuman won his first three doubles matches, teaming with brother Landon, before winning only once more the remainder of the fall to finish with a 4-4 doubles mark.

This is the first documented national ranking for the men’s tennis squad and Wright State is the only school from the Horizon League to have a singles or doubles team ranked by the ITA, on either the men’s or women’s side. Of the teams ranked in the top-40 of the doubles poll, Wright State is one of only eight teams from a non-BCS conference to be represented.

The men’s squad opens up their spring season on Saturday, January 23 as they travel to East Lansing, Michigan to take on Michigan State. The Raiders and Spartans will take to the indoor courts starting at 3:00.
