MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wright State men’s tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend on their road trip through Wisconsin. The Green and Gold dropped a 7-0 decision against Milwaukee and closed the weekend with a 5-2 loss versus Horizon League foe Green Bay.

 

On Saturday, at Marquette the Raiders couldn’t muster a point against the Eagles, but Jan Alafirz and  Byron Wowchuk each dropped close singles matches. Alafriz teamed with Mihkel Kruusmagi dropped a tightly contests decision at the #1 doubles position, falling 9-8 against the team of Trent Hagan and Stephen Shao.

 


 

 

On Sunday, the Green and Gold were just a few points away from a totally different result than the 5-2 loss against Green Bay on a neutral court. The Raiders dropped a pair of tight singles matches and a close doubles decision against the Phoenix.

 

Alafriz won a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 decision over Eric Plaushines at the #3 singles position and Wowchuk claimed a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win at the #4 singles spot. In doubles, Alafriz and Kruusmagi won their doubles match at the #1 spot with an 8-2 victory over UWGB’s team of Plaushines and Henning Jess.

 

The Raiders will next be in action on Saturday, April 4 as they open a home stand against Valparaiso on Saturday, April 4. The weekend will include an Alumni Event when the Raiders take on the Crusaders. For more information regarding the Alumni Event click here.
