MILWAUKEE, WI - The Wright State men's tennis team opened their league slate with a 5-2 triumph over UW-Green Bay. The Raiders took the doubles point by winning in the #2 and #3 slots and took the first four singles points for the victory.
In doubles, UWGB's #1 pair of Tim Prudlow and Mark Goldin took an 8-4 decision from Wright State's team of Nick Camilleri and Tony Teufel. The Raiders responded with wins in the next two doubles matches. Lance Koetter and Craig Smith won an 8-4 decision over the Phoenix pair of Eric Hines and Scott Dickert. In #3 doubles, Dan Sundersingh teamed up with Ted Dahmus to prevail over Mat Weiss and Eric Plaushines, 8-2.
In singles, Koetter won the first set 6-2, dropped the second set 2-6 and was down 2-5 in the third and final set, before mounting his comeback. Koetter charged all the way back and took the third set 7-6 (7-1) to spark the Raiders and win the first singles point.
Teufel took a 6-1, 6-3 decision from Goldin, Camilleri was victorious 7-6 (4), 6-1 over Matt Clegg and Smith triumphed 6-0, 6-3 over Hines. Michael Hall fell to Dickert in fifth singles by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and Dahmus dropped his #6 singels match 6-2, 6-0 to Matt Keasey.
The Raiders are now 6-6 overall and 1-0 in Horizon League matches. The Green and Gold will take on Southern Illinois and Marquette Saturday, March 3 in Milwaukee.
