Jan. 24, 2010
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Wright State men’s tennis team got a singles victory from Landon Neuman, but WSU dropped four, three-set singles matches in a 6-1 loss at Michigan State on Saturday (January 23). Landon Neuman teamed with younger brother Evan Neuman for a doubles victory to start the match, with the pair remaining undefeated at 4-0 this season.
“This was one of the closest played 6-1 matches that I have been a part of,” said head coach Sean McCaffrey. “This could have easily been a 6-1 decision in our favor, but we were unable to close out some matches. It was a good first showing from our squad, but there are a few things we need to work on in practice before our next matches.”
The match started off with a tightly contested doubles point to the host Spartans, with the nationally-ranked Neuman brothers claiming the only WSU win in the #3 spot. At #1 Doubles, senior Nick Camilleri and freshman Tore Waldhausen dropped a 9-8 decision to Austin Brooks and John Stratton. The duo had match point against the Spartans, but MSU rallied to win the tie breaker, 11-9.

Evan and Landon Neuman, currently ranked 39th nationally by the ITA, picked up an 8-5 decision over Will Davis and Brendan Kinkopf in the #3 position.
Landon Neuman won the only singles match of the dual with a 6-3, 6-4 showing against Kinkopf at the #5 singles spot. Camilleri played a tough match with MSU’s Ronnie Hulewicz, winning the first set, 6-1, before falling 6-2 and 6-4 to drop the tilt. Brian Dredge, Mihkel Kruusmagi and Waldhausen all dropped three-set matches versus Michigan State.
The Raiders will return to the court on Friday, January 29 with a match at Duquesne, before heading to Moon Township, Pa. for a January 30 tilt with Robert Morris.
