INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Horizon League announced on Tuesday that two players from the Wright State men’s soccer team were named to the League’s Postseason teams. Senior Braden Fleak earned Second Team All-League honors and rookie Brad Bamberger was named to the All-Newcomer Team, as selected by the league’s nine head coaches.
Fleak, who earns his third postseason honors from the Horizon League, was named to the All-League second team after earning First Team honors as a freshman and junior. This season, the Sunbury, Ohio native scored eight goals and added one assist in his final season. He netted three match-tying goals and three match winners this season, with one of those coming in overtime versus Valparaiso. He tallied goals versus Milwaukee, at Detroit and scored twice against Valparaiso to rank third among his league brethren in goals score in league play.

The senior tallied his first goal of the season in the opener at St. Bonaventure – the match tying goal – and closed the season with two goals versus Bowling Green and one goal at Alabama A&M. He ranked second in the league with eight goals overall, was fourth in total points and was second with three match-winning goals in 2009.
Fleak ends his WSU career with 35 goals, six assists and 76 points, to go along with 11 match winning goals and four match-tying goals. His 35 career goals are sixth best in Wright State history and the 76 points place him in a tie for eighth on the Raiders career charts.
Bamberger made the Horizon League’s All-Newcomer Team after exploding onto the scene in his first collegiate contest at St. Bonaventure. The rookie headed in the first goal of the season for WSU at St. Bonaventure and ended the season with six goals as a defender.
“Brad had an unbelievable rookie campaign for our program” said Davis. “He is lethal on attacking restarts and has been quite good for us on the defensive side of the ball. As his career unfolds, we expect to see great things from Brad on and off the field.”
The Kettering, Ohio native was the highest scoring defender in the Horizon League with six goals. The rookie collected his lone match winner versus IUPUI on October 21 and was one of three freshman to rank among the league leaders in goals scored and points in 2009.
The Green and Gold finished the 2009 slate with a 6-10-1 overall mark and a 2-5-1 record in Horizon League play, just one point shy of making the postseason. The Raiders will return 21 players next season, with nine of their 11 starters coming back, to start the second season under head coach Bryan Davis.
