Jan. 28, 2010
It was truly a group effort for Wright State Thursday night as the Raiders had five players score in double figures in rolling to a 79-43 Horizon League decision over the UIC Flames at the Nutter Center.
Wright State jumped out to a quick 13-3 lead in the opening six minutes of the first half thanks to three-pointers from Vaughn Duggins, Todd Brown and N'Gai Evans. UIC, however, gradually chipped away at the deficit and tied at 23 with 6:12 remaining.
From there, though, the rest of the period was all WSU as Evans got things rolling with a basket followed by a pair of three-pointers from Troy Tabler to make it 31-23 with 4:27 remaining. Duggins then added another basket from behind the arc as the Raider finished the half with a 34-24 lead.
In the second half, Wright State picked up right where they left off as a basket by Duggins and a pair of free-throws from Evans made the score 38-27 at the 17:53 mark. The Raiders built on the advantage from there, closing the game with a 23-5 run over the final seven minutes.
Five Raiders reached double figures as Tabler and Duggins each had 14, Corey Cooperwood 13 and Brown and Evans 11 a piece. It's the second time this season that WSU has had five players score in double digits in a game, with the other being December 3 against Cleveland State.
The 36-point win is the biggest for Wright State since a 88-48 decision over Sam Houston State back on December 28. It was their first double-digit win since January 2.
Robo Kreps paced UIC (5-15, 1-9 Horizon) with 16 points while Chris Buchanan had 11.
Wright State (13-8, 6-4 Horizon) hosts Loyola Saturday at 2:00. The game is the Horizon League Network's Game of the Week and will be televised live on Dayton's CW.
