Baseball to Host Winter Hitting and Pitching Camps

Nov. 7, 2006

DAYTON, OH - The Wright State baseball team will offer instructional hitting and pitching camps during this holiday season. The Raiders will offer ten, two-day sessions which include instruction from coaches and players from the 2006 NCAA Tournament team.

The Raiders will offer seven session with hitting instructions and three sessions for pitching throughout the months of December and January. All campers will receive one-on-one exposure to the Wright State coaching staff and players, including six hours of intensive training from one of the instructors.

Assisting all of the players with the camp will be head coach Rob Cooper, WSU pitching coach Greg Lovelady and hitting coach Mike Stover. Cooper, who enters his third year at WSU, helped guide the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and was also a member of the coaching staffs at Tulane, Oral Roberts, Wake Forest and Miami (FL). Cooper has spent time with the USA Junior National Program, winning the silver medal in 2000 with the team, and was the hitting coach at Tulane in 1999 when they finished eighth nationally in total offense.

Lovelady joined the Raiders staff with Cooper, coming to WSU after three seasons as an assistant coach at Miami (FL). As a player, Lovelady won two National Championships as a member of the 1999 and 2001 Hurricane squads, becoming the first catcher to start two National Championship games, and played one season of professional baseball in the Florida Marlins Organization. Stove joined the WSU staff this summer, after a four-year stint at Wichita State, and will help with the hitters and outfielders. While at Wichita State, Stover helped guide the Shockers to four straight NCAA Tournament births as an assistant coach.
