FORT WORTH, Texas – The Wright State baseball team will enter the 2009 NCAA Fort Worth Regional looking for their first postseason win since 1994. The Raiders will open postseason play on Friday, May 29 against host and #14th ranked TCU at Lupton Stadium at 8:00 Dayton time.
Wright State is making their third appearances in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, joining the 1994 and 2006 squads. Each of those three postseason jaunts came after winning the Horizon League Championship as the #3 seed in the league championship. This season, the Green and Gold claimed a 6-2 victory over UIC in 12 innings in the decisive game of the 2009 league summit.

The Raiders are led by Jeff Mercer at the plate with 89 hits, 26 doubles and 73 RBI’s. He ranks among the single season leaders in seven categories, with the senior owning the school mark for games started (61), doubles (26) and games played (61). Quentin Cate leads the team with 12 home runs and Casey McGrew ranks fifth in school history with 60 runs scored.
Alex Kaminsky leads the Raiders in victories on the mound with six and has won his last four decisions and has walked only eight batters in 78 innings of work. Out of the bullpen, Michael Schum has 13 saves, five victories and 55 strikeouts in almost 70 innings of work. Schum ranks third nationally in ERA with a 1.68 mark and is 13th nationally with 13 saves.
The Raiders and Horned Frogs will take to the field at Lupton Stadium at 8:00 Dayton time on Friday, May 29. The winner of that game will play on Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 Dayton time and the loser of that contest will face elimination at 2:00 on Saturday, May 30.
