May 30, 2009
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Wright State baseball team led 3-1 heading to the bottom of the third inning, but host TCU rallied for three runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to claim a 6-3 decision in the nightcap of the Fort Worth Regional at Lupton Stadium. Aaron Fields collected three hits and Ryan Ashe collected a pair of infield hits in the opening contest.
TCU got the scoring started in the opening frame as Wright State starting pitcher Rylan Ostrosky walked the first three batters of the contest before getting a double play ball, scoring the runner from third. Ostrosky got a fly ball to end the bottom of the first, but the Raiders trailed 1-0 after the first inning of play.
Ashe collected the first hit of the Regional with an infield single in the second inning, followed by a Kory Twede single to put two on with two outs. Jake Hibberd would ground into a fielders choice to end the frame and TCU would hold their 1-0 lead.

Ostrosky’s day ended after walking the first two batters of the second inning and Tyler Newhart entered the contest. With two on and no outs, Newhart retired three of the next four batters to hold the Horned Frogs at bay and push the game to the third inning with WSU trailing 1-0.
The Raiders struck with two outs in the third inning when Field doubled to left center field and Jeff Mercer was hit by a pitch before Casey McGrew stepped in and delivered. McGrew took the 2-2 offering and sent it deep over the right field fence to give WSU a 3-1 lead.
TCU sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three times with two outs off of Newhart. Newhart was relieved by Travis LaMar who would load the bases before getting the first strikeout of the contest for the WSU pitching staff, holding TCU to a 4-3 lead.
A bases loaded walk in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth pushed the Horned Frogs lead to 6-3 and LaMar left the contest to give way to Greg Robinson.
Robinson held the Horned Frogs scoreless over the final three innings, with Jordan Marker recording the final out for WSU, but WSU couldn’t get their offense rolling and dropped the 6-3 decision.
In the contest, McGrew collected three RBI’s to push his season total to 51, while Fields was three-for-four with a double and a run scored. Ashe had a pair of hits and Twede recorded the only other WSU hit in the contest.
The Green and Gold fall to 33-29 overall and will face Texas A&M on Saturday at 2:00 at Lupton Stadium. The Raiders will be the home team in the contest and live audio can be heard at http://listen.to/wwsu.
