Wright State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Points of Pride for 2008-09

  • The Wright State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has now booked 19 straight quarters with an averaged GPA 3.0 or above.

  • The WSU baseball team won the 2009 Horizon League Tournament and advanced to its second NCAA Tournament in four years. WSU also posted an 8-5 win over then #1-ranked Georgia.

  • The WSU men's basketball program posted its third straight 20-win season.

  • The Wright State women's soccer team finished with 10 wins or more for five straight seasons.

  • The WSU men's basketball program had the largest percentage increase in Horizon League basketball attendance.

  • Former Raider standout Joe Smith completed first full season in the big leagues with the Cleveland Indians.

  • WSU basketball received national exposure by appearing on the ESPN Network five times in 2009.

  • Raider baseball coach Rob Cooper was named an assistant coach for USA Baseball for the third time this past summer. Casey McGrew became the second Raider ever to be selected to the USA Collegiate National Team.

  • The softball team recorded its second-highest victory total ever (34) and finished third in the Horizon League Tournament.

  • Cassandra Lloyd became the second Raider athlete to compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track Championships, finishing 13th in the 100 meter hurdles. She also placed fourth in the US Junior Nationals, earning her USATF All-America status.

  • Cross country runners Kevin Sheehan, Ben Livingston and Kurt Throckmorton qualified to appear in the 2010 Boston Marathon next April.
