Joyce Whitaker is the Wright State Spirit Coordinator, a position she has held since 1994.
In her role, Whitaker oversees all aspects of coaching and administration for the spirit units (cheerleaders, dance teams and mascots), which includes assisting the coaching staff with recruiting, conditioning, choreography, budgeting, marketing, and fundraising. Whitaker attends various sporting events and works with the promotions and band directors to ensure proper game-day management.
During her tenure, Wright State has received numerous awards, including the 2004 and 2006 NCA Collegiate Program of the Year and the 1995 UDA Dance National Champions. The Raiders are also the reigning Horizon League Cheer, Dance, Mascot and Partner Stunt champions.
A member of Who's Who of Collegiate Coaches, Whitaker previously coached the Dance Team from 1985 to 1993 and also assisted the initiation of the Junior Raider.
A 1980 WSU graduate with a degree in Education, Whitaker is certified with the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) and the American Association of Cheerleaders, Coaches, and Advisors (AACCA) and also has a Professional in Human Resources Certification.
Whitaker lives in Dayton with her husband, Lee, and their two children, Lauren and Jordan.
