by WSU Athletic Media Relations

A late goal by senior Emilie Fillion lifted the Wright State women's soccer team to a 1-0 season-opening win over Ohio Friday night at Alumni Field.

Both teams had opportunities in the first half, with the Raiders attempting eight shots compared to six for the Bobcats, but both came away empty as the contest remained scoreless.

It stayed that way until the 86:24 mark when Fillion connected on a shot from the right side of the box that went over the head of Ohio goalkeeper Mattie Liston and into the net.  Freshmen Natalie Sedlock and Kalee Thompson were each credited with an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy recorded the shutout as she posted three saves.

Wright State returns to action on Monday, August 20, with another home match, this time against Mount Vernon Nazarene starting at 7:00.
