Wright State dropped a pair of games to UIC Saturday at the WSU Softball Field, falling to the Flames 1-0 in the opener and 8-1 in the nightcap.
Pitchers Krystian DeWitt of WSU and Devin Miller of UIC hooked up in a scoreless pitcher's duel in the first game until the Flames scored an unearned run in the seventh on a double by Laura Swan. DeWitt allowed just four hits and a walk in striking out four while Miller surrendered only two hits and two walks while striking out seven.
In game two, UIC took control early with three runs in the first and two in the second before Wright State scored a run in the fourth. Alex Machen led off with a walk, advanced to third on a Kaitlyn Kite bunt and a wild pitch, and scored as Taylor Knore lined a hit off the first baseman's glove.
That turned out to be the lone run of the day for WSU, however, as the Flames rounded out the scoring with three in the sixth.
Kacie Rapshus and Jess Gorman each had two hits on the day for Wright State (9-30, 6-8 Horizon), which wraps up the series with UIC Sunday with a single game at noon.
