The Wright State baseball team broke things open with an eight-run seventh inning as the Raiders went on to a 14-1 win at Butler Sunday to take the rubber game of the series.
WSU opened the scoring in the first on a Ryan Ashe sacrifice fly and made it 3-0 an inning later on RBI singles from Jake Hibberd and Corey Davis. Davis doubled in a run in the fourth and Hibberd doubled in two in the sixth to push the lead to 6-0.
Butler tallied its lone run in the sixth before the Raiders broke it open with eight in the seventh. Bases loaded walks to Kyle Mossbarger and Michael Timm accounted for the first two runs with the final six coming in on two-run hits from Sam Picchiotti, Hibberd and Ashe.
On the mound, Taylor Braun (1-0) earned the first complete-game victory in his collegiate career, scattering eight hits and a walk in allowed just one run with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Hibberd had three hits and five RBI while Davis and Picchiotti each had three hits and two RBI. Ashe had two hits and three RBI.
Wright State (11-10, 4-2 Horizon) hits the road for four more games next week. After a 6:00 contest at Ohio on Tuesday, March 27, the Raiders visit Valparaiso for a three-game series next weekend, starting with a single game on Friday, March 30, at 4:00 Eastern.
