For the second time this season, Wright State baseball sophomore lefthander Zane Collins has been selected as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Collins (West Mansfield, OH/Benjamin Logan) helped the Raiders complete a three-game series sweep over Valparaiso Sunday by picking up the win in the second game of a doubleheader. In a six-inning start, he allowed no runs and just four singles while striking out nine, including back-to-back strike outs to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam.
Collins, who was also chosen as the Pitcher of the Week on March 6, is 2-2 with a 1.84 earned run average. In 29.1 innings, he has given up 20 hits and eight walks while striking out 31.
WSU has earned three of the five Pitcher of the Week selections so far this season as junior lefty Danny Sexton received the honor on February 20.
Wright State (12-6, 3-0 Horizon) travels down I-75 to Xavier on Tuesday, March 21, for a 3:00 before returning to league play with a three-game home series against Milwaukee over the weekend at Nischwitz Stadium.
