Head volleyball coach Susan Clements has announced the signing of a pair of student-athletes who will attend Wright State and play for the Raiders next fall in Celia Powers and Mallory Ladd.
Powers (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) was an Honorable Mention All-State selection as a senior for the Mohawks as well as First Team All-Girls Greater Catholic League, First Team All-District and Second Team All-Star by Enquirer Media. She recorded 282 kills with 190 digs, 113 blocks and 40 service aces.
A two-year team MVP and captain, Powers was a First Team All-GGCL honoree as well as Second Team All-District as a junior and was Honorable Mention All-League as a sophomore. At the club level, she was part of the squad that finished runner-up in the 2016 USA Volleyball National Division, won two USA Volleyball Open qualifiers and finished 18th in the country in the USA Volleyball Open division.
"Celia is going to be a big impact player for Wright State," said Clements. "Her length in the Horizon League will be hard for other teams to match up with and she will pose a huge block on the right side as well as being an offense weapon. Celia also has a great all-around game and can potentially play six rotations and any front row position."
Ladd (Oregon, OH/Clay) recorded 318 kills and 266 digs for the Eagles last season as she received First Team All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference and all-district honors. As a junior, Ladd had 332 kills and 303 digs as she again was First Team All-TRAC and all-district. She was Honorable Mention All-TRAC as a sophomore and was a two-year team captain.
"Mallory is a complete player with a lot of athletic ability," said Clements. "Her vertical and speed will be utilized to fill any hole we could have to give this program much needed depth. She is a competitor and a natural leader and we are excited to see her grow and improve at Wright State."
