Bill Wampler, a 6-6, 200-pound guard at Drake University, has decided to transfer to Wright State and play basketball for the Raiders, WSU head coach Scott Nagy announced Tuesday.

Wampler, who just finished his sophomore season, will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the upcoming year.

He started 16 games and played in 31 for the Bulldogs last year as he averaged 9.6 points and 2.5 rebounds while connecting on 60 threes.  Wampler averaged 22.2 minutes overall as he collected three 20-plus point games in December, including his career-high 27 points against Mississippi Valley State and 23 points against Iowa State.  The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native also grabbed his career-best seven rebounds three times last year.

"Bill will be a great addition to our team," Nagy said.  "He is another big guard who can play multiple positions.  He enters our program with a good amount of college basketball experience.  With another year of development, we think Bill will have a major impact on our program, not only as a player but as a person."

As a freshman, he played in 29 games while averaging 3.8 points, shooting 45% from behind the three-point line.  Against Evansville, he scored 14 points, going five of eight from the field with three threes.  At Regis High School, he was ranked the No. 6 player in the state of Wisconsin and was a four-time all-conference selection.  The Ramblers finished 26-1 as he averaged 26 points and seven rebounds when he earned all state and conference Player of the Year honors.

The Raiders signed 6-0 guard Tyler Mitchell during the early signing period while guard Cole Gentry transferred to WSU from South Dakota State last December.  6-5 guard Jaylon Hall from Doss High School in Louisville, Kentucky, signed last week.  Wright State finished the 2016-17 season with 20 wins and an RPI of 115, its highest ranking since 2009.
