The Wright State baseball team completed a Horizon League series sweep of Valparaiso by taking both ends of a doubleheader Sunday at Nischwitz Stadium, winning the opener 6-1 and the nightcap 7-0.

The Crusaders scored what turned out to be their only run of the day to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, only to see the Raiders answer right back with a run in the bottom of the frame.  Adrian Marquez tripled to center on the first pitch and, one out later, scored on a JD Orr hit up the middle.

WSU then broke the 1-1 deadlock with three runs in the fifth.  With one out, Nick Weybright singled up the middle and Brandon Giltrow followed by driving a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left center for his first collegiate home run.  The third run came as Zach Weatherford reached third on a bunt single and a throwing error and scored on a Orr single to left.

Seth Gray drove in a run in the sixth on a grounder and Wright State rounded out the scoring on an unearned run in the seventh.

Ryan Weiss (3-0) went seven innings for the win, scattering six hits while walking none and striking out three.  Evan Moores pitched the final two frames, fanning one.

At the plate, Marquez, Orr and Weybright had two hits, Orr and Giltrow two RBI and Weatherford two runs scored.

In the second game, the Raiders took the lead with three runs in the second.  After Matt Morrow walked and Gabe Snyder doubled to left to put two runners in scoring position, Gray plated Morrow with a grounder and Weybright drove in Snyder with a hit up the middle.  Marquez then walked and Weatherford singled through the left side to knock in Weybright with the third run.

A throwing error on a steal attempt of third by Morrow made it 4-0 in the third and WSU broke the game open with three unearned runs in the fourth, the key blow being a two-run single by Alex Alders.

Zane Collins (2-2) struck out nine and walked none in pitching six shutout innings for the win.  Daniel Kreuzer, Alex Anders and Jeremy Randolph completed the shutout as each pitched a scoreless inning.

Wright State (12-6, 3-0 Horizon) travels to Xavier on Tuesday, March 21, for a 3:00 contest before hosting Milwaukee in another three-game league series next weekend.
