The Wright State men’s basketball team will take its 20 wins and #5 seed into the Little Caesars Horizon League Tournament this weekend at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
The Raiders will play #4 seed Northern Kentucky Sunday at 7:30pm in the quarterfinals of the tournament. With a win, the Raiders will play on Monday against the winner of Saturday’s Oakland vs Cleveland State/Youngstown State winner at 7 pm. The championship is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 pm.

Wright State: The Raiders, 20-10 and 11-7, split the final games of the season, falling to Valparaiso 84-74 and beating UIC 87-49. It is the first time since 2008 that the Raiders won 20 games during the regular season.
Mark Alstork became the first Raider to be named to the first team since Vaughn Duggins in 2011 this past week.
Alstork continues to lead the Raiders with 18.9 points per game while Davis is at a 15.3 clip. Justin Mitchell is at 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. Benzinger is averaging 12.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds.
Last Game: The Raiders beat UIC at home 87-49 last Sunday afternoon. Davis’ 27 points led WSU on five threes. Mitchell added 17 points and six assists. WSU shot 52% from the field and outrebounded the Flames 37-32. Benzinger added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Tournament Past: The Raiders have shown well in the Horizon League Tournaments, advancing to the finals in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016, winning the title in 2007. The Raiders also advanced to the final of the 1993 Mid-Continent Conference championship games, winning the title, and the finals of the 1995 MCC Tournament.
Series: Wright State leads 21-9 overall but lost both meetings this year. The Raiders fell at home 83-79 (2/9/17) and 83-76 (2/21/17). In the first meeting, Alstork led all scorers with 27 points but NKU had four in double figures, led by McDonald’s 20 points. In the second meeting, Benzinger had 20 and Alstork had 24 but Cole Murray had 23 followed by 19 from Lavone Holland and 18 by McDonald. This will be the third meeting in less than a month.
Northern Kentucky: The Norse, 21-10 and 12-6, will enter the tournament as the four seed behind the Coach of the Year John Brannen. Sophomore Drew McDonald, averaging 16.5 points and 7.6 rebounds a game, was named to the first team along with Alstork. Carson Williams was selected to the All-Freshman Team as he averaged 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds in his rookie season.
