Wright State junior guard Mark Alstork was named First Team All-League as the Horizon League announced its men's basketball postseason awards Wednesday.
Alstork (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) ranks third in the league in overall scoring at 18.9 points per game, eighth in assists per game at 3.5, third in free throw percentage at 86% and seventh in threes made per game at 2.1. He posted the season’s fourth-best scoring performance with his career-high with 39 points against Toledo. Twice, he had the league’s most free throws in a game with 15 made versus Miami and CSU Bakersfield.
The Horizon League Player of the Week on November 14 and November 21, Alstork led the nation in scoring early in the season and now ranks 66th overall and 63rd in free throw percentage. The Dayton native, who just collected his 1,000th career point against Valparaiso Friday night, is currently tied with Bill Edwards for the second best junior scoring mark with 586 total points. Seth Doliboa holds the junior scoring record with 625 points.
So far this season, Alstork has scored in double figures 26 times, including 16 times of 20 or more points. He had 30 or more points three times, including 33 points at Horizon League foe Youngstown State recently. Over the last eight games, he has averaged 23.1 points. He grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds against Cleveland State at home in early January.
Alstork becomes the 18th Wright State player to earn First Team honors since league play started in 1992. Vaughn Duggins was the last Raider to be named to the First Team in 2011. The head coaches, sports information directors and three media members from each school vote on the honors.
In the Little Caesars Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament, the #5 Raiders (20-11, 11-7) will take on #4 Northern Kentucky (21-10, 12-6) at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Sunday at 7:30 pm. The complete bracket is attached.
