The Wright State softball team fell twice in the second day of the Hilltopper Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Saturday, dropping a 4-2 decision to Indiana State and 4-3 to host Western Kentucky.
In the opener, the Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first. With two outs and no one on base, Macy Cook and Becka Peterson singled and both came in on Alexis Mayle's hit to left.
Freshman starting pitcher Lauren Deitrick shutout the Sycamores until the fifth when Indiana State scored all four runs on one big hit as Leslie Sims had an inside-the-park grand slam.
Mayle finished with two hits and the two RBI to lead the WSU offense while Kelly Dillow had a double.
In the second game, the Raiders again took the early lead with an unearned run in the first and added single runs in the second on a Dillow double and the third on a Mayle single, only to see Western Kentucky answer with single runs in all three frames to tie the game at 3-3.
The Hilltoppers pushed across a run in the fourth and made that stand up the rest of the way despite having the potential tying run at second in the seventh.
Honnah Susor had two hits in the second game for WSU.
Wright State (2-7) wraps up tournament play on Sunday morning against IUPUI starting at 11:00 Eastern.
