Men’s Basketball hosts Blackout Night versus Northern Kentucky

Hosting the annual Blackout Night where the first 5,000 fans will receive a free black t-shirt, the Wright State men’s basketball team start a three-game homestand as they host Northern Kentucky Saturday at 7 pm.  Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game and arrive early for the women’s game against NKU at 4:30.

Follow the Raiders: Wright State’s games this week can be seen on ESPN3 or heard on 106.5 FM and iHeart app.  Saturday will also be shown live on Time Warner’s SportsChannel.

Promotions: The first 5,000 fans will receive a free black Raider t-shirt.  It is also We Serve You Crayon Drive Night as fans will receive a FREE popcorn from the concessions in exchange for crayons at the gates.  The title sponsor will be Premier Health.

Wright State: The Raiders, 15-8 and 6-4, split a pair of games this past weekend, losing at Valparaiso 70-55 Friday and winning at UIC 88-86 Sunday afternoon.  In league play, WSU has had four of its top five offensive outputs of the season, including the 88 at UIC Sunday.

Mark Alstork continues to lead the Raiders with 17.9 points per game while Steven Davis is at a 15.0 clip.  Justin Mitchell is at 11.5 points and 8.3 rebounds, as he is averaging 11.0 boards over the last seven games.  Grant Benzinger is averaging 11.0 points per contest.

Last Game: The Raiders finished a comeback effort for the 88-86 win at the UIC Pavilion Sunday as five Raiders scored in double figures led by Mark Alstork’s 24 points.  17 of his points came in the second half.  Mitchell finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season while Parker Ernsthausen had 11 points and Mike La Tulip and Benzinger each ended with 10 points.  WSU shot 54%.

Series: Wright State leads the NKU series 21-7 after winning both meetings last year, 67-64 at home and 60-46 at Northern Kentucky.  The teams were often opponents in the Division II days but last year's two meetings were the first since 1987.

Northern Kentucky: The Norse, 14-9 and 5-5, split two games last week, winning at UIC 79-62 but losing at Valparaiso 65-58.  Drew McDonald leads the Norse in scoring at 16.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.  Lavone Holland II, who had 13 at Valpo, averages 14.3 points.

Looking Ahead: WSU ends its three-game homestand by hosting Milwaukee on February 9 and Green Bay on February 11.
