Wright State senior outfielder Kieston Greene was selected as the Batter of the Week and junior Andrew Elliott the Pitcher of the Week as the Horizon League announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday.
Greene (Decatur, IL/MacArthur) led the league in batting average (.500) and on-base percentage (.579) last week and was third in slugging percentage (.714) as he helped the Raiders win four times and stretch their overall winning streak to 10.
Greene doubled in the seventh inning and later scored WSU's first run of the game as the Raiders came from behind to win at Akron 3-1. He then went six for 10 in a three-game sweep at Oakland over the weekend with six RBI and five runs scored along with three stolen bases. In an 11-8 run on Saturday, Greene was five for six with a double, five RBIs and two runs scored.
For the season, Greene is hitting .277 with 25 RBI and is tied for the team lead in doubles with 13.
Elliott (Wheelersburg, OH/Wheelersburg) earned three saves on the week to give him 11 for the season. He picked up at Akron as he struck out one in an inning of work. On Friday at Oakland, he entered the game with WSU holding an 8-6 lead and closed out the ninth to seal the win. On Saturday against the Golden Grizzlies, he came into a bases loaded situation with the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but induced a flyout to end the game.
Elliott leads the Horizon League with the 11 saves and that is tied for the seventh-best in a season in Wright State history. For the year, he has posted a 0.38 ERA (one earned run) in 24 innings of work, striking out 31 and allowing just 13 hits.
Wright State (25-16, 18-2 Horizon) hosts five games this week, taking on Xavier (Tuesday) and Akron (Wednesday) in 6:30 nonleague contest during the week before hosting Youngstown State for a three-game Horizon League series over the weekend.
