by WSU Athletic Media Relations

The Wright State baseball team improved to 4-0 in the Horizon League as they pushed across a run in the 14th inning to defeat Oakland 5-4 Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Golden Grizzlies took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as Zach Sterry hit a two-run home run to left, only to see the Raiders answer with three in the bottom of the inning.  Back-to-back doubles from Brad Macciocchi and Joe Ford produced the first run and after Andrew McCafferty walked and both he and Ford stole a base, Sean Murphy singled up the middle to give WSU a 3-2 lead.

Wright State added another run in the third as Michael Timm singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Murphy's double left.

Oakland cut the deficit to one in the fourth on an infield hit by Jake Morton and it stayed that way until the ninth when the Golden Grizzlies tied the game at 4-4 on a two-out single off the bat of Trent Drumheller.

The Raiders left two on in the 13th, but finally pushed across the game-winner in the 14th.  John Brodner and Jack Murphy started off the frame with hits and both moved into scoring position on a Macciocchi sacrifice.  After a walk to Joe Ford, McCafferty delivered a single to drive in Brodner.

Travis Hissong pitched the first seven innings for the Raiders, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out seven.  Darion Nunn (1-1) picked up his first win at WSU as he got the final two outs in the 14th.

Offensively, Murphy had two hits and three RBI while Macciocchi, Ford, McCafferty and Timm also had two hits for WSU.

Wright State (10-10, 4-0 Horizon) and Oakland (4-9, 0-1 Horizon) continue the weekend series with a single game Saturday at 2:00.
