For the second straight week, a Wright State pitcher has been selected as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week as junior righthander Travis Hissong has received the honor for the week ending February 23, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Hissong (Bellville, OH/Bellville) picked up the win as the Raiders defeated UC Irvine on the road on Friday, February 21, by the score of 3-1. He went seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Horizon League Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Hissong is 1-1 on the year with a 3.55 earned run average. In 12.2 innings of work, he has given up seven hits and five walks with striking out eight. Opponents are only hitting .163 off of him.
Wright State (2-4) travels to Lexington on Tuesday for a 4:00 contest at Kentucky (5-2), ranked #25 in this week's Perfect Game poll, before heading back west for a four-game series at #6 Oregon State (6-2) starting on Friday at 8:35 Eastern time.
