Junior guard Kim Demmings has been selected as the Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 1, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Demmings (Richmond, IN/Richmond) was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team as she scored 85 points and gathered in 24 rebounds in three games. She also shot 44 percent from the field (28-64), 48 percent (11-23) from three-point range and 90 percent at the foul line (18-20).
In a 99-90 win over then-undefeated North Carolina State on Friday, Demmings tallied 30 points on 10 of 18 shooting, including four of eight three-pointers. She also had four rebounds. Demmings then had 27 points in a 69-62 setback to eventual tournament champion Middle Tennessee on Saturday, hitting nine of 24 shots, including five of eight threes, with nine rebounds.
The Raiders then pulled out a last-second 79-77 win over James Madison on Sunday as Demmings had 28 points on nine of 22 shooting from the field. She also collected 11 rebounds in posting her first double-double of the season.
Demmings currently leads the league in scoring at 24.2 points per game, is fourth in threes made per game at 2.2, eighth in free throw percentage at .774, tied for ninth in steals at 1.8, 11th in offensive and defensive rebounds at 2.3 and 4.4, respectively, 13th in overall rebounding at 6.8 and 14th in field goal percentage at .424.
It is the second Player of the Week honor this season for Demmings, as she was also selected on November 11, and the third overall for WSU this season as senior guard Ivory James was chosen on November 18.
Wright State (7-2) faces another daunting task on Saturday, December 7, as the Raiders face defending national runner-up and #4 ranked Louisville (7-1) at the KFC Yum! Center. Tip-off is at 7:00.
