The Wright State volleyball team won the first set, but could not maintain the momentum as the Raiders fell to UIC in the season finale Saturday at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. The Flames won the match 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.
WSU led just 15-12 in the first set before closing it with a 10-3 run as the Raiders outhit the Flames .387-.000 for the set. UIC went up 24-18 in the second set before holding off a Wright State comeback and the Flames used a 6-0 run to break open a 15-14 lead in the third set. In the final set, UIC again held off a late Raider comeback to close out the match.
UIC finished with a slight 51-47 kill advantage despite WSU outhitting the Flames .140-.121.
Ruffing and Aiello led Wright State (6-26, 0-14 Horizon) with 12 kills each, with Ruffing also posting a double-double with 10 digs. Heidi Splinter, in her final match as a Raider, had a near double-double of nine kils and 21 digs while Miranda Puthoff had a double-double of 40 assists and 10 digs, Carleigh Green 11 digs and Katie Glassmeyer 10 digs.
