Volleyball to Help in Fight Against Blood Cancer
Release: Thursday 10/03/2013
by WSU Athletic Media Relations

The Wright State volleyball team will be helping in the fight against blood cancer October 3 and 4.

On Friday, October 4, the Raiders will take part in their second annual Block Blood Cancers match, raising funds to assist those with Leukemia and Lymphoma cancers while bringing awareness to all.  The concept was spearheaded by head coach Susan Clements whose father, Don Clements, battled leukemia and lost his battle on October 13, 2010.

The night before, on Thursday, October 3, The team will take part in the Light The Night's Dayton Walk at the Fraze Pavilion, where balloons of color will light the way that represent those battling, survived, or in remembrance will be paid tribute to.

For more than 60 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been solely focused on people with blood cancers. Presently, more than $250 million has been committed to research across the United States and in ten other countries.  Wright State Volleyball is happy to join in the efforts with the LLS and reach out to our community to help those with blood cancers.

"So many people everywhere are touched by cancer and since leukemia has hit me personally, I saw a great opportunity for Wright State Volleyball and the Wright State Community to get involved," said Clements.  "This walk is so inspiring and really makes you appreciate helping others and being a part of something bigger than just volleyball. Knowing that you can help provide a family with care, information, and research is the best win a team can have."

Anyone can donate to the team or to an individual apart of the team by clicking here or going to the attached link.  No matter the size of your contribution every generous gift helps millions.
