WBB Recruit Competes in U20 European Championships

Richelle van der Keijl, who signed with the Wright State women's basketball program this spring, was a part of The Netherlands' U20 team that competed in the European Championships in Samsun, Turkey.

In the team's opener on July 4 against Serbia, van der Keijl led the way with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-43 win.  She was 11 of 15 from the field, made her lone foul shot attempt, had five offensive boards among her 11 rebounds and added two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

The Netherlands then defeated the Ukraine 68-52 on July 5 as van der Keijl had six points on two of three shooting from the field and a perfect two for two at the foul line.  She also added three rebounds and two blocks.

On July 6, van der Keijl had eight points and nine rebounds as The Netherlands fell 63-55 to Belarus in the final game of Group A play.  She was three for six from the field and recorded three assists and three blocked shots.

On July 8, she had 14 points and eight rebounds as The Netherlands dropped a 56-50 decision to Greece in the first game of Group E play.  She was six of 11 from the field and had four blocks.

In a 62-47 setback to the Slovak Republic on July 9, van der Keijl had six points and two boards while against Spain on July 10, she led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds despite a 60-39 loss.

On July 12, van der Keijl posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in a 58-56 win over Lithuania.  She was six of nine from the floor and added four blocks and two assists. 

van der Keijl provided the game-winner in a 50-49 win over Poland on July 13, scoring six of her game-high 20 points in the final five minutes.  She was nine of 12 from the field, posted a double-double by adding 14 rebounds, eight on the offensive end, and recorded five blocked shots.

The Netherland then finished 10th in the championships by falling to Greece 56-52 on July 14 as van der Keijl had 12 points on six of 10 shooting along with seven rebounds.

In nine games altogether, van der Keijl averaged 12.7 points, 7.9 rebounds  and 2.4 blocks per game while shooting 56 percent from the floor.  She led the tournament in field goal percentage and in blocks per game and was 11th in scoring.
