Down 3-0 early, the Wright State baseball team scored the final six runs of the game for a 6-3 decision over Youngstown State in the opening game of the Horizon League Tournament Wednesday in Niles, Ohio.

The Penguins scored a pair of runs against Raider starter Joey Hoelzel in the first and added another in the second to build an early 3-0 advantage before WSU answered with a run in the bottom of the second.  Hits by Kieston Greene and Kody Krizman along with Jeff Limbaugh being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Sam Picchiotti, who drove in Greene with a sacrifice fly to center.

Wright State then tied the game with two runs in the third.  After Michael Timm reached on an error and advanced to third on a Mark Fowler bunt and a John Brodner fly out, he scored as another error allowed Garrett Gray to reach.  Gray stole second and third and then came home on a Greene single to right.

The Raiders went in front to stay with a run in the fourth, again aided by another YSU miscue as Picchiotti reached on an error and scored as Justin Kopale tripled to left center.

Picchiotti also played a role in each of the final two runs as, in the sixth, he singled and later came in on a Timm hit to left center while in the ninth, the senior second baseman led off with a solo home run to left, his second of the season.

After giving up three runs and four hits in the first two innings, Hoelzel (5-5) shutout Youngstown State over the next five innings as the junior righthander allowed four hits.  Freshman Trevor Swaney earned his first collegiate save by pitching the final two innings, giving up no runs or hits while walking one and striking out two.

Offensively, Picchiotti had two hits, two RBI and scored three times while Greene had two hits, a RBI and a run scored.

Wright State (23-28) now faces #1 seed and Horizon League regular-season champion Milwaukee in the second round Thursday at 3:00.
