The Wright State softball team trimmed an early 3-0 deficit with two in the fourth, but could get no closer as the Raiders dropped their regular-season finale at Loyola 4-2 on Sunday.
The Ramblers scored three in the bottom of the third, only to see WSU answer right back with two in the top of the fourth. Kaitlyn Kite led off with a walk and Reagan Stofcheck advanced pinch-runner Colleen Schneider to second with a bunt. One out later, both Kristi Boreing and Angie Clark walked to load the bases and pinch-hitter Kacie Rapshus was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Jess Gorman followed with a walk to bring in another run and make it 3-2.
The Raiders, though, would get no closer despite having a runner on second in the both the fifth and sixth innings and having one on third in the seventh. Loyola added an insurance run in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Wright State (17-35, 10-11 Horizon) now turns its attention to the Horizon League Tournament, which begins on Wednesday at Flames Field on the UIC campus. The #5 seed Raiders open the tournament against #4 seed Cleveland State at noon Eastern. The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
