Baseball Rolls to 18-4 Win at Youngstown State
Release: Tuesday 05/03/2013
by WSU Athletic Media Relations

The baseball team exploded for nine runs in the first and eight more in the fourth in rolling to an 18-4 Horizon League win at Youngstown State Friday afternoon.

Two errors and a John Brodner walk helped set up the first run and Michael Timm singled to left to make it 2-0.  With two outs, five straight hits by Justin Kopale, Sam Picchiotti, Kieston Greene, Brodner and Garrett Gray produced seven more runs, including a two-run single by Kopale and a two-run double from Brodner, to extend the margin to 9-0.

The Penguins scored two in the third before WSU put the game out of reach with eight more in the fourth.  A grand slam home run by Jeff Limbaugh accounted for the first half of the runs with the other four coming on RBI singles by Gray and Timm, a Kody Krizman sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to allow Brodner to score.

The Raiders added one more in the sixth as Mark Fowler doubled down the left field line with two outs and Limbaugh drove him in with a hit up the middle.

Wright State finished with 20 hits overall as Timm had four, Limbaugh and Kopale three each and Gray, Fowler and Picchiotti two apiece.  Limbaugh finished with five RBI while Brodner, Gray, Timm and Kopale each drove in two.

On the mound, Casey Henn (4-6) allowed just one earned run in six innings of work, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out two.

Wright State (19-22, 7-9 Horizon) continues the three-game weekend series with a single game Saturday at 1:00.
