The Wright State softball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit to take a 5-2 lead, only to see Dayton score four times in the bottom of the sixth to win 6-5 Tuesday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.
Dayton opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second and it stayed that way until the Raiders tied it in the fifth, taking advantage of three Flyers errors to do so.
WSU then took the lead with three in the sixth. Alex Machen reached second on an error to start the frame and scored as Angie Clark had a two-out single up the middle. Jess Gorman followed with a line drive home run to left, her second of the season, to make it 5-2.
A three-run homer by UD's Jordan Jennings, though, tied it in the bottom of the sixth and the Flyers scored the winning run later in the inning on a bases-loaded walk to Natalie Mariano.
Gorman finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored to pace the Raider offense. WSU starting pitcher Krystian DeWitt allowed just four hits and one earned run in five innings, striking out six.
Wright State (7-24) and Dayton (15-15) meet again on Wednesday, this time at the WSU Softball Field starting at 6:00.
