The Wright State softball team dropped both ends of a Horizon League doubleheader at Valparaiso Tuesday, falling 8-5 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game.
Kaitlyn Kite gave the Raiders a quick 2-0 advantage in the opening inning of game one with a two-run homer to left, her first of the season. Valparaiso, however, took the lead with three in the second and added another in the third to go up 4-2.
WSU cut the deficit to one with a run in the fifth as Hanna Floyd doubled in pinch-runner Kristi Boreing, only to see the Crusaders answer with three in their half of the fifth.
Wright State tacked on a run in the sixth on an Angie Clark RBI single and one more in the seventh as Kortney Tackett singled in Jess Gorman, but could get no closer.
Kite and Floyd each had two hits in the first game.
The Raiders again opened the scoring in the second game with a run in the second on another RBI hit from Clark, but again Valparaiso would answer quickly, this time with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Kite tied the game at 2-2 in the third as she doubled in Lindsay Barrett, but that turned out to be the final run of the day for WSU as the Crusaders broke the tie with three in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Kite had three more hits in the nightcap.
Wright State (5-22, 2-4 Horizon) hosts Youngstown State this weekend in another Horizon League three-game series, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00.
