The Wright State softball team managed just three hits on the day as the Raiders dropped a 5-0 decision in the Horizon League series opener at Valparaiso Monday afternoon.
Crusader pitcher Taylor Weissenhofer struck out the first nine WSU batters she faced and did not allow a base runner until Kaitlyn Kite singled through the right side in the fifth. The Raiders later loaded the bases in that inning, but came away empty.
Hanna Floyd and Angie Clark had hits in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but no other Wright State player reached base.
Valparaiso, meanwhile, scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings and added two more in the fifth.
Wright State (5-20, 2-2 Horizon) wraps up the series against Valpo with a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 3:00 Eastern.
