The Wright State baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Clemson Saturday, falling 5-3 in the first game and 6-0 in the nightcap.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the first game with a run in the first before the Raiders tied it in the third. Sam Picchiotti led off with a double to right center and after advancing to third on a wild pitch, scored as Mark Fowler singled through the left side.
Clemson, however, regained the lead with a run in the third and extended the lead to 5-1 with a run in the fifth and two more in the eighth.
WSU tried to rally in the ninth by scoring twice. With one out, Justin Kopale singled to left and Beau Phillips had a hit to center. A Michael Timm grounder moved both runners into scoring position and Picchiotti delivered a two-run single to center to make it 5-3.
Garrett Gray had a hit to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate, but the game ended on a fly out.
Picchiotti had three hits for Wright State while Gray, Fowler and Phillips each had two.
The Raiders had nine hits in the second game, but could not string anything together to produce a run against five Clemson pitchers. Picchiotti had two more hits as did Jason DeFevers.
Wright State (3-2) and Clemson (4-1) wrap up the three-game series Sunday at 1:00.
