The Wright State softball team split a pair of games in the opening day of the Blues City Classic Friday in Southaven, Mississippi, defeating Wichita State 3-2 before falling to Indiana State 3-1.
Against the Shockers, the Raiders opened the scoring with a run in the second. With two outs and no one on base, Colleen Schneider was hit by a pitch, went to third on a hit to right by Reagan Stofcheck and scored as Alanna Williams singles through the left side of the infield.
Wichita State answered with single runs in the third and fifth before Wright State tied it with a run in the fifth on a RBI hit by Taylor Knore.
The Raiders then came up with the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh as Kacie Rapshus singled, went to second on a Kortney Tackett bunt, third on a wild pitch and scored as Knore doubled to right on a full-court pitch.
In the circle, Krystian DeWitt picked up the win as she allowed just two hits in the complete-game victory, striking out eight.
Against Indiana State, the Sycamores tallied a single run in the first and two more in the third before the Raiders picked up a win in the sixth. Rapshus doubled with one out, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsay Barrett.
Montana Wear was the tough-luck loser, giving up just two hits in six innings with four strikeouts.
Wright State (1-6) concludes tournament play Saturday with two more games, taking on SIU Edwardsville at noon Eastern followed by Samford at 2:00.
