An unearned run in the first proved to be the difference as the Wright State softball team fell 1-0 at #19 UCLA Friday night in a game shortened to 4 1/2 innings due to rain.
The Bruins (1-0) came up with the lone tally in the first as leadoff batter Ally Carda reached second on an error and scored from there two outs later on a wild pitch.
From there, Raider pitcher Krystian DeWitt shutout UCLA on three hits, walking two and striking out three for the game.
Bruin pitcher Carda was also in dominate form, allowing just one hit, a single to right center by Lindsay Barrett in the second, and walked one while striking out eight.
Wright State (0-2) continues play in the Stacy Winsburg Memorial Tournament Saturday with two more games, taking on #17 Texas A&M at 5:00 Eastern followed by a rematch with UCLA at 10:00 Dayton time.
