Wright State junior guard Ivory James has been selected as the Horizon League Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week for the week ending January 27, it was announced Monday morning by the league office.
James (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) provided a spark off the bench in WSU's lone game last week as the Raiders defeated UIC 59-51 on January 24 at home. With the game tied at 16 with 4:48 remaining in the first half, James scored Wright State's final 13 points of the period as the Raiders took a 29-24 lead into the break.
Overall, James led WSU with 19 points as she was four of eight from the field, including two three-pointers, and was nine of 10 at the foul line.
Despite coming off the bench in all five league games so far, James is second on the team in scoring in those contests, averaging 13.4 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range. Overall, James is third on the squad with a 10.2 scoring average while shooting 42 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
Wright State (9-9, 3-2 Horizon) will host three games this week, starting with Green Bay Monday night at 7:00. The Raiders then take on Valparaiso on Thursday, January 31, at 7:00 and Youngstown State on Sunday, February 3, at 3:00.
