WSU Basketball Teams Play Three This Week

The men’s basketball starts the Horizon League schedule by hosting Green Bay Thursday and Milwaukee Saturday while the women’s team travels to Memphis to play the Tigers on Saturday.

Men’s Basketball:  Wright State has won four of its last five matchups and head into league action with a record of 9-4.  Jerran Young has been a leading force in recent games as he has averaged 13.0 points per game over the past five games.  In fact, three other players have also averaged in double figures in that time frame: Miles Dixon 11.8, Reggie Arceneaux 10.6 and Cole Darling 10.5.

Green Bay comes to town with a 6-7 overall record, winning three of the last four games, including the last three tilts and a 49-47 win at home over Marquette.  Keifer Sykes averages 16.6 points per game while Brennan Cougill (12.7 ppg) and Alec Brown (11.7 ppg) also average double figures.  Cougill, Brown and Jordan Fouse average 6.8 rebounds per game each.

Milwaukee, which plays at Detroit Thursday night, currently has a record of 4-10 and is coming off a 95-80 home win over Ohio Dominican.  Jordan Aaron leads the Panthers with an average of 15.6 points per game while Paris Gulley has a 15.1 average.  Their other wins include Northern Illinois, Davidson and Mary.

Women’s Basketball:  The women’s basketball team will take a 6-6 record into the new year as they play at Memphis Saturday at 2 pm.

Winners of four of its last six games, the Raiders have been led by Kim Demmings with a 20.7 points per game average as well as 6.1 rebounds per game.  KC Elkins has posted a 10.1 points per game average.   WSU defeated Morehead State 53-46 at home Sunday as Demmings scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Memphis is 7-5 and will host Tennessee Tech Monday afternoon.  Nicole Dickson has an average of 20.1 points per game, and Ariel Hearn carries an average of 14.3.  The Tigers have won four straight as Dickson registered 28 points against Missouri in their last outing.
