Lauren Patterson, a senior defender for the Wright State women's soccer team, has been named first-team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Patterson is the first WSU women's soccer player ever to receive such an honor.
Patterson, a native of Colorado Springs, CO, was a key part of the Raider defense that allowed just 13 goals for the regular season in posting a 0.70 goals against average. A First Team All-League selection as well as part of the All-Tournament Team in 2010 and 2012, Patterson also contributed offensively this season with goals at Colorado and Youngstown State. In 2012, she was also named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and currently acts of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president.
"I am very proud of Lauren and all that she has accomplished," said WSU head coach Pat Ferguson. "She has been a model team member, student and leader in our program. She has been rightfully recognized with her All-Region inclusion and has set a new standard of excellence for this program to which future players can aspire."
The Raiders raced to the finals of the Horizon League Tournament where they lost 1-0 at Milwaukee in overtime. The late goal by Milwaukee was the lone tally against the Raiders throughout the tournament as they defeated Youngstown State and Detroit 1-0 each in earlier rounds.
