A Brett Elder goal tied it late in the first half, but Ohio State would score the game-winner with just under 20 minutes remaining as the Wright State men's soccer team fell to the Buckeyes 2-1 Friday night in Columbus.
Sage Gardner gave OSU a 1-0 with a goal on a penalty kick at the 26:14 mark of the first half before Elder tied it at the 39:40 mark. Elder, from the Columbus suburb of Worthington, recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season and his fifth in the last seven matches on an assist by fellow freshman Erik Anderson. It was Anderson's first assist of his collegiate career.
It stayed tied at 1-1 until the Buckeyes came up with the game-winner at the 71:04 mark of the second half on a goal by Chris Hegngi.
Ohio State (6-8-1) led 17-12 in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks. Raider goalkeeper Jacob Bye tallied seven assists on the night.
Wright State (3-10-1) returns to Horizon League play on Wednesday, October 24, with a visit to Valparaiso. Match time is 8:30 Eastern.
