The Wright State volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to UIC Friday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. The Flames won the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-21.
WSU led 5-3 early in the first set before UIC went in front to stay with seven straight points. The Raiders would come as close as 15-11 before another Flames run, this time 5-0, put UIC in control.
The Flames led the entire way in the second set, but the third was a different story as there were six lead changes and 12 ties. Wright State led 20-19 following a Samantha Daniel kill, only to see UIC answer with four straight. A service error made it 23-21, but the Raiders would get no closer as the Flames closed out the match on a ball handling error and a block.
UIC (13-10, 6-2 Horizon) finished with just a 47-40 edge in kills, but the Flames committed just nine attack errors and hit .306 overall while WSU had 20 attack errors in hitting .156.
Heidi Splinter led the way for the Raiders with 15 kills while setter Ashleigh Lucco dished out 35 assists and libero Katie Glassmeyer recorded 21 digs.
Wright State (2-23, 0-8 Horizon) hosts Loyola Saturday at 7:00.
