Behind a hat trick performance by Ini Umotong, the Wright State women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over IPFW Monday night at Alumni Field.
Umotong got the Raiders on the scoreboard at the 21:47 mark of the first half as she converted a shot from the left side of the box off a cross from the right side by Adrianna Guerrero. It was Guerrero's second assist of the year.
Guerrero followed with a goal of her own at the 37:05 mark, her first of the season, as freshman Amy Anderson notched her third assist of the year. Freshman Jessica Stauffer then made it 3-0 at the 50:26 mark of the second half as she drove down the middle of the field to score her first collegiate goal.
Umotong accounted for the rest of the scoring with a goal at the 73:59 mark and another at the 80:36 mark, giving the freshman forward six goals on the season.
The five goals are the most for WSU this season and the most since defeating Canisius 8-1 last August 21 at the Athletes in Action complex in Xenia.
While the offense was in high gear, the defense posted its sixth shutout of the year, led by reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week Brooke McCurdy in goal. McCurdy tallied three saves over the first 80:36 while Kelsey Deal was in goal the final 9:24.
Overall, the Raiders outshot IPFW 18-6, including 11-2 in the first half.
Wright State (6-2-3) returns to Horizon League play on Friday as the Raiders host Green Bay at 5:00.
